Time is very precious when you are racing to get to work in the morning but there’s more to smelling good than a quick spritz of body spray before you dash out of the door and it doesn’t take much longer than your normal routine.

I’m assuming you shower or bath every morning?
But how can we make that morning freshness last all day?
The answer is LAYERING.

Everyone perspires which is very necessary, but perspiration only smells when bacteria on the skin start to break it down. Deodorant on its own will not do the job so obviously the first step will be to wash or shower regularly . Washing with soap and water will remove the bacteria which causes sweating, making it more difficult for embarrassing smells to develop.

The purpose of deodorants or antiperspirants is to mask odours and when you apply it, make sure your skin is clean and dry and definitely don’t apply it if you have just shaved your underarms (We’ve all done it!)

Many people find they don’t need deodorant if they wash frequently but in the hot weather I personally wouldn’t take the chance.

If you are intending to go out after work and can’t shower, cleansing wipes can be used to freshen up your armpits as a short cut.

Layering your scents makes the perfume really last.

The first step will be to bath or shower with your favourite fragrant soap, oil, bubble bath or shower gel.

These treats will fragrance your skin all over so it’s a great way to start your day.

With your skin still slightly damp, apply a body lotion or butter in the same fragrance.

This is probably enough for some people, particularly if you are going to work – but if you love to wear perfume, apply it at this stage or save it for the evening.

It’s worth remembering the different types of perfume because there is no reason why you shouldn’t wear it during the day but it will always boil down to preference.

Normally has up to 6% fragrance oils and lasts up to about 3 hours so you could splash this on after a bath or shower and it wouldn’t be too overpowering.

Usually has 7-15% fragrance oils. The lighter top and middle notes of this perfume lasts a few hours, but the base notes of the perfume will make it last all day. Spray or dab it on to your skin.

This is the most powerful and concentrated fragrance with up to 40% fragrance oils and a high concentration of long lasting base notes. You may prefer this perfume for evening but you only need a small amount for long lasting fragrance.

If your coat smells stale following a night out spritz it with water containing a couple of drops of lavender essential oil or essence of your choice and leave it to air on a washing line or an open window.
