LIBERATE YOUR FEET! AN EASY AT HOME PEDICURE

Last month during our enforced isolation, I showed you how easy it was to give yourself a facial.

Beauty salons and chiropodists are still out of action so with Summer very much on its way, we can easily get your feet sandal ready in the comfort of your own home.

The weather has at least been amazing during the last few weeks but if your feet have been covered up in previous months with socks and boots, the time has come to liberate them.

You must have heard of the phrase “Ne’er cast a clout ‘til May is out” and for once, this year we can think about our Summer wardrobe, including footwear, without it being freezing cold. As I’ve said before, it’s a real treat to have a professional pedicure but you don’t have to go to a salon to get beautiful feet.

PEDICURE TIME…

  • Remove any existing nail polish with a suitable remover.
  • Soak your feet for 5-10 minutes in a foot spa or alternatively a bowl of warm water.
  • Add a squeeze of foot bath or a few drops of essential oil – peppermint oil to revive your feet, lavender to soothe your feet are just a couple of suggestions.
  • Dry your feet thoroughly particularly between your toes.

FILE & POLISH

  • File nails using long, smooth filing strokes so that they are slightly rounded.
  • Very gently push back the cuticles with a hoof stick and massage in a small amount of cuticle cream.
  • Massage your feet with a rich foot cream or lotion.
  • Before applying your nail varnish make sure you have wiped off any excess moisturiser from your nails with a polish remover.
  • Apply a base coat and 2 coats of your favourite polish allowing drying time between each coat. Finish with a quick drying top coat.

Your feet should feel amazing after all that attention but if you have particular health problems with your feet or you have diabetes, it’s always better to go to the professionals but I’m sure you agree that it is possible to give yourself a DIY pedicure in between trips to the Spa.

NB: If you are on your feet all day and they get swollen, try a handful of Epsom Salts in a bowl of warm water to soak your feet and fill a second bowl of cold water. Soak your feet alternately in each bowl for a couple of minutes OR use pre-blended foot bath suitable for purpose.
