It always makes me smile…
…because as a nation we seem to moan constantly about the British weather.
I think we’ve all been guilty of this from time to time?
But I’m sure you’ll agree that the last few weeks have been very testing and, I for one, have certainly been moaning about the heat and humidity!
At least these days, I don’t have to bear the tube, buses or trains to get to work – but I remember well very unpleasant experiences where I have been aware of some people’s poor personal hygiene at the end of the day. I’m sure you know what I mean!
What’s the difference between a deodorant and anti-perspirant?
DEODORANTS are substances designed to prevent unpleasant body odour. They contain various combinations of antibacterial substances, substances that absorb odours, and substances that mask odours.
ANTI-PERSPIRANTS are preparations that reduce sweating, which in the commercial world are usually made up of aluminium compounds. These substances penetrate the duct of the sweat gland, block it and so the secretion of sweat is reduced.
There is so much choice on the high street, but in recent years there has been research which suggests there might be a link between aluminium salts in products and health issues.
If you want to read more on this, I covered it in a previous blog which you can read here.
At Mellow, it is very important that products are as natural as possible but of course, it is personal choice.
Product spotlight!
The Mellow natural deodorant uses raw ingredients which kill the bacteria giving sweat its odour, but does not close the pores which would prevent the secretion of sweat.
Deocrystal Stone Powder (potassium alum), is a natural anti-perspirant. Many of the commercial deodorants use aluminium chlorohydrate and this is a good alternative ingredient. Another ingredient is Farnesol which is a natural raw material extracted from Palmarosa and Chamomile essential oils used to kill the bacteria which makes our perspiration smell unpleasant.
Importantly, it doesn’t close the pores or stop the necessary process of perspiration.
Finally, Lemon Ester is used to reduce the pH of the skin, making it more acidic and less prone to growing bacteria. Add essential oils to this formula and you have a very effective product which easily lasts all day, giving you the confidence you need.
