Use these natural ingredients to boost your sole(s)!

summer sandalsThis month at Mellow Skincare, we’re thinking about getting your skin summer ready. As the weather gets warmer and we get set to liberate our feet from winter boots and slippers into sandals for the first time this year, it’s worth devoting some time to giving your feet some extra TLC.

Fortunately, Mother Nature has provided us with some wonderful ingredients for making your feet look and feel like they’re walking on air this summer. Here are our favourites for Happy Feet this Summer…

Peppermint

Peppermint oil is one of our favourite foot care ingredients – in fact, it can be found in every one of our ‘Soothe’ foot care products. Why is peppermint so good for your feet?

Peppermint oil can relieve foot pain, rheumatism and muscles pains, making it great for tired and aching feet at the end of a long day. It also boosts your circulation by improving blood flow, reducing skin reddening and dilation of capillaries. If you have dry, flaking skin on your feet, peppermint oil offers a wonderful treatment as it eliminates itching and will nourish and hydrate your skin. Peppermint can also help your feet fight bacterial infections and eliminates some foot odours.

Lemon

In March, we wrote a blog article dedicated to the many natural skincare benefits of citrus fruits. As a natural exfoliant, lemons are amazing for ridding your feet of dry, cracked skin. They can help diminish the appearance of scars and skin damage, and brighten your skin. They are also antibacterial and can prevent or even cure some infections. We love the fresh, invigorating smell of lemon too – talk about add a ‘zing’ to your step.

Lavender

Lavender is used in many skincare products because of its antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties. As well as helping soothe aches and pains in your feet, it can help with fatigue more generally. As the soles of your feet are more porous, massaging a product with lavender into your feet means it enters your system quickly to help you relax and unwind.

Tea tree

Tea tree can help to cure bacterial, fungal and viral infections, which makes it particularly effective in the treatment of foot conditions such as Athlete’s Foot and toe nail fungus. Tea tree can also help speed up the healing process and prevent infections in small cuts and abrasions. Many people use tea tree products to help keep their feet and shoes fresh throughout the day.
